The Boston Celtics matched up in a primetime spotlight game on national TV taking on the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, in what could've been a preview of the 2026 NBA Finals this summer. It was a matchup that did not disappoint and had plenty of chaos, back-and-forth, and intense interactions that would lead to an ejection of Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown.

San Antonio was able to take control of the game after Brown's ejection, and while Jayson Tatum put up a valiant effort, it would not be enough for Boston who were down not just Brown but also Payton Pritchard due to injury. The win for the Spurs would give them a season sweep of the Celtics as they continue their push for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Here's a quick recap of Tuesday's loss to the Spurs on the road for Boston:

Final score: San Antonio Spurs 125, Boston Celtics 116

Keys to the game:

Victor Wembanyama's big night: Wembanyama tied his career high in 3-pointers made on Tuesday night, going 8-15 from deep, totaling 39 points and 11 rebounds for San Antonio. One of the best players in the league asserted himself often and early, and continues to be the leader for the Spurs. His fourth-quarter shooting put an end to any attempt of a comeback for Boston and gave the Spurs the victory.

Jaylen Brown's ejection: In the second quarter of action, Jaylen Brown was pushed by Spurs guard Stephon Castle and when no foul was called, Brown reacted with a ton of anger towards referee Tyler Ford. Brown only played in 15 minutes of the game, which hurt even more in Jayson Tatum's third game back this season and no Payton Pritchad, eliminating a major portion of Boston's offense in this game.

Spurs controlled paint: San Antonio did several things correctly in the win, but more than anything, they controlled the paint. Not only did the Spurs outrebound Boston, but they also scored more points in the paint, a big reason being Victory Wembanyama.

Highlight of the game: Victory Wembanyama with an unbelievable putback

It is another big matchup against one of the top teams in the Western Conference for Boston on Thursday night, and another primetime marquee matchup as they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder. After being defeated by the Spurs on Tuesday, Boston will have their first of two matchups against Oklahoma City, the reigning NBA champions from the 2024-25 season, and last year's MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. These two teams will meet twice in a matter of 13 days in the month of March, with the Thunder sitting atop the Western Conference, and Boston looking to catch the Detroit Pistons at the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
