After a slew of signings to open the NFL’s legal tampering period on Monday, Tuesday was much slower for the Kansas City Chiefs. Late in the evening however, wide receiver Nikko Remigio’s agency Equity Sports announced via X that Remigio was “signing an extension” with the Chiefs.

It is unclear what the extension entails. Remigio was eligible for “exclusive rights free agency” (ERFA) as a player with two credited seasons. ERFAs are prohibited from talking to another team as long as the original club offers a one-year minimum salary. For Remigio, that would be a non-guaranteed one-year contract for $1,075,000.

With still over 30 openings on the offseason 90-man roster, the Chiefs were expected to tender Remigio to allow him to compete in camp. It is possible Remigio’s agency is simply putting a spin on a routine technical move.

Remigio joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2023. After spending his rookie season recovering from a shoulder injury, he broke through late in 2023 as the Chiefs’ primary return man and delivered a pair of key returns in the postseason. Unfortunately, he underwhelmed in the role in 2025. For his career, Remigio has three receptions for 69 yards.

Punter Matt Araiza is also a pending ERFA. The Chiefs will presumably tender Araiza an offer before the league year begins at 3:00 p.m. Arrowhead time on Wednesday. The Chiefs also reportedly are not offering guard Mike Caliendo a significantly more expensive “restricted free agency” tender.
