The deal cost the 49ers the No. 92 overall selection, but they returned a 17-sack linemen who has been one of the best at pressuring quarterbacks in the NFL.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Odighizuwa generated 32 pressures when double-teamed since the start of 2024. That's the second-most in the league over that span behind only Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner. Odighizuwa's 9.1 percent pressure rate on double-teams is also the third-highest in that span, per NGS.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis is likely a big reason why the 49ers pursued Odighizuwa. He has 81 quarterback hits and 17 sacks during his five-year career in Dallas, as well as 216 combined tackles and two forced fumbles.
The 49ers didn't have much depth in the interior of their defensive line, either, after Jordan Elliott signed with the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco decided not to tender restricted free agent Kalia Davis. That left only 2025 second-round Alfred Collins at defensive tackle.
Now, Odighizuwa joins the fold with 76 career starts and a penchant for taking down quarterbacks.
